Winston-Salem Police Department is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency which serves and protects its citizens. The department is comprised of both sworn and non-sworn staff members led by Police Chief Will Penn.
The WSPD Traffic Enforcement Unit is comprised of a riding Sergeant, two Corporals, and five motor officers. They are tasked with traffic enforcement, investigation of motor vehicle collisions, escorts, and other various special events. The motor units qualify bi-annually on their motor and must achieve a grade of 90% or higher on a grueling qualification course. Once qualified, a new motor officer is in a state of training where he/she rides along with a seasoned officer for no less than 100 hours.
