In 2019 Ofc. Ross moved to Wilmington after having lived in Washington state for 6 years while active duty in the Army. Ofc. Ross then became a certified police officer in 2019 where he was assigned to patrol. He worked patrol for over a year before being assigned to Wilmington's Downtown Task Force. At that point he became certified with the New Hanover ABC board to enforce ABC laws and commissions. He was then transferred to the Special Operations Traffic Unit. He has been assigned to the Traffic unit since 2022. He also is assigned to the Regional Swat team that is hosted at the Wilmington Police Dept.

Ofc. Ross has been certified to teach Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He is certified by the state as a traffic crash reconstructionist. He is also certified in advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement, light detection and ranging, radar speed enforcement,
