Winston-Salem Police Department is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency which serves and protects its citizens. The department is comprised of both sworn and non-sworn staff members led by Police Chief Catrina Thompson.
The WSPD Traffic Enforcement Unit is comprised of a riding Sergeant, two Corporals, nine motor units and two undercover vehicles. They are tasked with traffic enforcement, investigation of motor vehicle collisions, escorts, and other various special events. The motor units qualify bi-annually on their motor and must achieve a grade of 90% or higher on a grueling qualification course. Once qualified, a new motor officer is in a state of training where he/she rides along with a seasoned officer for no less than 100 hours.
