Master Police Officer Matthew Leahey has been employed by the Burlington Police Department since April 2023. Prior to serving with the Burlington Police Department, he served with the Greensboro Police Department since April, 2007. He is currently assigned to the Burlington Police Department Traffic Division, Motor Unit. Prior he was assigned to the Greensboro Police Department, Special Operations Division, Motor Unit and completed the NC State Highway Patrol Police Motorcycle Operators course in August of 2016. Officer Leahey is also a Motorcycle Safety Foundation instructor, a North Carolina General Instructor, North Carlina specialized driving Instructor, and a specialized instructor in Subject Control and Arrest Techniques.
Officer Leahey has been riding motorcycles for several years, which allowed him to develop his skills and love for riding.
Officer Leahey currently rides a 2024 police edition Harley Davidson, Electra Glide.
